FIFTIES LOVE AFFAIR
When the owners mentioned “We’re too much in love with the memories of our aging 50’s ranch to demolish it”, that’s all we needed to hear. We knew exactly what to do. We set out to carefully remodel the home, preserving their sense of nostalgia, yet reconfiguring it and adding to it, to accommodate their newly found empty-nester lifestyle.
The house had a lot of small, dark rooms, an abundance of wood interior surfaces, and black brick floors. Thus, a primary concern was to open it up, to flood it with natural light. Additionally, the floating roofs caught our attention and became another point of departure.
